If we're discussing awesome bands from Australia, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Wolf and Cub, latest 4AD wunderkind. They released their self titled EP, Steal Their Gold in 2005, and a follow-up featuring remixes (one by fellow 4AD band, Minotaur Shock) later that year. I love both of these albums. The four track self titled EP hearkens to the nascent sounds of the Stooges, or T-Rex, conjuring primal images of embattled dingos and wind-blasted crags. Steal their gold takes these four songs and dusts them off for the dance floor. Seen here is the music video for "This Mess", from their upcoming album.
Vessels is due out on 4AD in March of this year, however, it is already out in their homeland. You can scope them out at the 4AD website, check out their Myspace page, or defer to their official website for further information.
